In Taormina, ecumenism began almost thirty years ago, without us being aware of a movement in this sense.  A very small group of people, Anglican, Lutheran and Catholic met together to explore the possibility of closer ties.  The first efforts were very low-key and animated by mutual respect.  From then, knowledge of ecumenism has grown to the point that there are now active committees both in the Diocese of Messina and that of Catania. Worship is not limited to the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, celebrated in January, but we participate in conferences, interfaith dialogue and social care in the community.
